If you know me, you know this: I love animals.
I live with one, I care for them deeply, and they inspire so much of my work. Some of my most meaningful tattoos are portraits of pets, immortalizing their spirit on skin.
So you might be wondering:
If my art celebrates animals, why not bring them to the tattoo session?
After nearly two decades of tattooing, here’s my answer:
If you know me, you know this: I love animals.
I live with one, I care for them deeply, and they inspire so much of my work. Some of my most meaningful tattoos are portraits of pets, immortalizing their spirit on skin.
So you might be wondering:
If my art celebrates animals, why not bring them to the tattoo session?
- A tattoo session is not a quick visit
Some sessions last 4, 6, even up to 10 hours. That’s a long time for a pet to sit in an unfamiliar space, surrounded by strange sounds, smells, and people. They get restless. They get anxious. And that stress isn’t fair to them.
- Cleanliness, and regulations, matter
Tattooing is an art, but it’s also a surgical process. Every surface, every pigment, every needle needs to remain sterile. Many studios (mine included) are required by health codes to keep animals out of procedure areas.
- Focus is everything
A tattoo demands full concentration. From me, as your artist, and from you, as the person sitting through hours of work. A bark, a whine, or a pet pulling at the leash breaks that focus. Even small distractions can affect the flow, the precision, and ultimately, the result of your piece.
- It’s about safety, too
Machines buzz, people move, and needles are sharp. One sudden jump from a dog, one accidental trip over a leash, and the entire tattoo could be compromised. Preventing those accidents is part of protecting both you and your art.
What if you’re getting your pet tattooed?
That’s one of my favorite projects to do.
But for that, I don’t need your dog or cat sitting in the studio.
What I need is a great photo, one that captures their essence, their eyes, their personality. That’s what allows me to create a portrait you’ll carry forever.
Sometimes they’re howling.
Sometimes they’re still watching from the skin like they’re waiting for the right moment to move. Each wolf has its own energy, its own story, its own reason for being there.
In the end…
Leaving your pet at home doesn’t mean leaving them out. They’re still at the heart of the work, in the photos you bring, in the stories you tell, in the art we create together.
So when it comes time for your session:
Bring your inspiration. Bring your patience. Bring yourself.
And trust that your pet will still be honored in the most meaningful way, through art that lasts a lifetime.
