How an Austin tattoo artist preps for long sessions

A tattoo is a lifelong decision a piece of art that will stay with you forever. Choosing the perfect design is key, and I’m here to help you make it personal and meaningful.
How an Austin Tattoo Artist Preps for Long Sessions

Tattooing often means long sessions, six, seven, even eight hours of focus, energy, and precision. And while people might think it’s just about having a steady hand and a good machine, the truth is: to give my best to each client, I need to be at my best, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

I’m not a machine. I’m an artist. But I’m also a body, a back, a mind, a presence. Behind every finished piece, there’s a personal routine that supports it.

Discipline starts from within

I’ve learned that what I eat directly affects how I feel, how I focus, and how long I can sustain deep work. I’m not talking about following a perfect diet, I just eat consciously.

I avoid inflammatory foods, especially gluten (which I’m sensitive to), and focus on real, nourishing meals rich in protein, minerals, and healthy fats.

I drink quality water, mineral water, every day. It might sound simple, but hydration is everything, for both me and the skin I work on.

My body is part of my toolkit

I swim several times a week. It keeps me strong, grounded, and flexible, without putting too much pressure on my joints. It helps me move, breathe, release tension.

My posture, my shoulders, my eyes, they all matter. Taking care of my body allows me to show up fully and with intention for every client.

A focused mind, and a grounded heart

Mental clarity is essential. I want to show up to each session fully present, undistracted. Every client deserves that.

But I also know that you can’t give your best to others if you’re disconnected from yourself. That’s why I protect my rest, my space, and my peace.

I invest in my relationships. I spend time with my family, with my partner, my son, my dog. I protect what matters — because that also feeds the energy I bring to my work.

Technical and emotional preparation

Before each session, I read every story. I take a moment to connect. Even if I’m not the one replying to emails, I personally read and feel every project before we begin. That connection matters.

I prepare my tools, my workspace, and my energy. Everything is designed to make you feel safe, comfortable, and respected. Nothing is random.

Because tattooing means giving a piece of myself

When someone finishes a session with me and looks at their tattoo, whether they smile, get emotional, or stay silent, I want to be fully there. Present. Proud of what I delivered.

That’s why taking care of myself isn’t optional. It’s part of my craft. Because tattooing is art. And like all art, it grows from the inside out.
